Soprano Nola Richardson and a complement of American Bach Soloists instrumentalists will present a delightful musicale in the home of Elizabeth Wilson overlooking San Francisco’s verdant Presidio National Park. The program including Handel’s dramatic secular cantata Armida abbandonata (“Armide abandoned”) along with a selection of Nola’s favorite Bach arias will be performed in this private house concert including plenty of food and drink to further dazzle your senses. Nola Richardson, soprano, Clara Osowski, mezzo-Soprano, Corey Shotwell, tenor, and Will Prapestis, baritone, will come to Carmel to train Baroque repertoire with Festival artists, and explore ways to communicate the repertoire more vividly. In a light-hearted atmosphere of discovery, we experience a wealth of Baroque vocal music and examine all aspects of style, technique, communication, language, performance skills, and artistry.

Trevor Stephenson and a quartet of outstanding vocalists perform masterworks by American composers Scott Joplin, Louis Gottschalk, Stephen Foster, Charles Ives, and Richard Rogers in their original arrangements! A grand tour from pre-Revolutionary War tunes, to the dreamy ballads of Stephen Foster, to the art-songs of Charles Ives, to the awakening energy of Ragtime, and ending with the great Broadway musicals of the 1920’s and 30’s. This program will be filmed October 9 in Madison by Wisconsin Public Television for airing statewide in 2020.

Hildegard of Bingen’s music has echoed over the centuries and millennia since she put them down on paper. Universally revered as one of the greatest minds of the Middle Ages, Hildegard was the very definition of Medieval Mystic. Her Ordo Virtutum (Play of Virtues) features a cast including Mercy, Victory, Patience, Discretion and Charity. The women of Seraphic Fire bring this nearly millennia-old masterpiece back to life.
